Brown-cheeked rail or Eastern rail

Happy Valley, Baruipur, West Bengal

It was a perfect bright morning when I used to live in Kolkata. In between a week we got the information about this very rate and exclusive bird via Facebook in Baruipur wetland. So I was eagerly waiting for the earliest weekend to visit Baruipur keeping fear in mind that it wouldn’t disappear by that time. It’s a god grace that it stayed for that weekend and along with 30 other bird watchers from Kolkata I got the opportunity to watch the bird and photographed.

Due to the massive reeds in that particular area, it did not show up for long time. It was morning time when it started foraging from the wetland and moving back and forth. It all caught our attention with its extremely beautiful plumage and behaviour. We started shooting as much as we can. I wish I could make a video but ended up managing few images I shared here. Thanks to god for creating this beautiful species.
