Brown crake

Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary, Maharashtra

Absolutely hot listed bird this is and it can be found rarely in India. But it has a very confusing behaviour and I feel it depends on the habitat and locality they live. Why confusing because in Bhigwan Brown crake is found and it is habituated with people around this place, and it can respond its call and comes out to the open ground where you can take its picture easily. It has very elegant mat finish dark grey plumage with slightly greenish beak. Unlike the other crake it is much bigger by it's size. They prefer to live inside the reeds beside waterbody because they like to eat small insects from the ground beside any lake bed or waterbody.

Byatarayana Doddi Kere, Karnataka

On the other hand, Brown crake found in Byatarayana Doddi Kere, which is damn shy. It is next to impossible to get its shot because it is not at all human friendly and very sensitive. I went there for more than 10 times and every time i found this birds there, it shows the same behaviour. Where there is no one on the ground it comes out of the reeds and go near by lake bed for foraging but once someone appears on the ground from very far it gets alert and run into the bush and never come out again. Even if you give a call, it will never come out. SO every time I go to this place for this bird, I consider not to keep this bird in my wish like. One day I was very lucky to manage this picture even though these are out of focus but atleast I feel happy to get the record.
