Red-throated pipit
Varthur lake, Bangalore, Karnataka
A very underrated by its plumage but a super rarity and an exclusive pipit is Red-throated pipit. Mostly found in muddy grassland nearby a water body. Sometimes it’s hard to identify due to its plumage but once it is identified, you won’t loose it from your eyesights. It has a same size of paddy field pipit but it has more darker streaks in back and pinkish or reddish throat is pretty highlighted. Breeding time gives more colour of it.

In Varthur, this bird was an eye candy for everyone. Once it was spotted by a fellow birder, everyone rushed towards the area everyday to search and photograph it. It was not easy every time to get it but when multiple birders search for it, it got caught the attention. In 2023 in Bangalore there were less rain occurred. Due to that lake beds were getting dried day after day, it was getting hard to find it after 9 due to the heat wave. As the lake bed is getting dried soon, the bird kept changing their position now and then. And it was getting out of hand to search for it. But I genuinely thank to Mother Nature to allow me to watch and photograph the bird.
