Streaked weaver

Muthanallur Lake, Karnataka

There was a time back in Bosipota, West Bengal, I used to visit birds of marsh habitat. I saw flock of weavers (including Baya, Streaked and black-breasted) multiple time. Now I have to separate out three of the sub-species and take individual pictures of each. It was the most difficult part for me because in single frame other mixed weavers also came in. But it was so incredible to see all the birds out there. In this picture you can see male & female streaked weaver one after another.

These pictures are taken at Muthanallur Lake in Bangalore. Both are male here. Pre-monsoon they were busy making their nest. As usual Male weavers were taking that initiative. They were not much shy and given ample amount of time to photograph.

Unlike Baya they make their nest in reeds beside a small pond. I noticed the nest was quite similar but not the same. First of all they could not create it very long as the reeds has limited capacity to hold minimum weight and I found those birds incredibly tied up their nest along with the reeds.

There were around 4/5 nest and 3 pair of streaked weavers. How lovely is that to witness those birds along with their nests.
