How to go: |
From Howrah you can get Aranyak Express or Rupashi Bangla (Santragachi), or any other trains which is going towards Bishnupur-Bankura. It takes around 3 hrs 30 min. maximum to reach Garhbeta. From Garhbeta railway station you will get toto to reach the destination. It takes around 20 min. to cover 4.5 km to reach the place.
You may also get shared Tanga vehicle (Auto) to reach Garhbeta college which is 1 km away from Gangani and from there again you have to get toto to reach the spot or you may walk through the red mud and Cashew nut jungle to reach the place.

Gangani is a natural canyon situated near the town of Garhbeta, in the Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal. Gangani, also known as the The Grand Canyon of West Bengal, is almost 70 feet deep and is formed due to natural erosion of the Shilabati River.

Best season:
- Well, people would suggest you to visit in winter, but I would personally suggest to visit the place in pre-winter, may be in October or starting of November. You will get Kash flower shading the bank of river like heaven. The view is beautiful.
- Avoid visiting in December or January as those are the picnic season, and you will get irritated and may feel disgust by the loudspeaker and activities of parties.
Points to remember
- It takes maximum 2 hours to visit the place.
- You can visit near by Cashew Nut forest for a calm and peaceful walk.
- You can take food with you and can have a small feast on the bank of Shilabati river.
- Be careful on each step you proceed, you may get skit or the land may get slide due to the pattern of soil.
- Must carry water as you hardly find shops or stalls over there.
- Use sports shoe with good grip to avoid skit while stepping the landscape.
Don't
- Do not throw plastic bags or drinks bottle in the place to make it hell. Already several unconscious and careless people are doing the same and make the environment unhealthy.
- Do not play loud speaker to make it a DJ ground, you can go to any disc to get the same environment.
- Try not to get into the river as there are some surface issue on the ground level of river, it may be harmful for you.
