Shikaripara in Dumka District, JharkhandMalooti

Nov,2019
Address: Malooti, Jharkhand 816103
How to go: Way 1: From Sealdah you will get Rampurhat Passengers or other mail train which is passing Rampurhat. Also you will get mail train from Howrah. Get down in Rampurhat railway station and come to the 1 no platform, you will find toto standing outside. Go and talk to them, you have to bargain somewhat if you are going alone. They will take around 500 rs. for Malooti which is 15 km away from railway station. I suggest book it for 3 hours and comeback by the same vehicle. Because you may not get another transport from Malooti to comeback. If you are alone, total cost will be around 1000 rs.

Way 2: If you are going by car from Kolkata, take Durgapur Express way- Burdwan- Suri Road, leave Guskara road in left hand and move straight to Bolpur Road-Ahamadpur Road then Salbadra-Mollarpur Road and reach Malooti. Form Kolkata it is around 220km.
Pros: Amazing local people also great environment of the village including temple.
Amazing village road to travel (once you left highway).
Cons: Some Network issue inside the village (you may get only Jio)
If you are going alone you may get a bit trouble to hire direct auto from the railway station (Rampurhat Junction). A small group may help to recover this issue.
Lack of food shop in that village or surroundings
What to visit ? December to February to enjoy the climate and village hopping. Avoid November or October during Dasherra or Diwali season, you may get disturbed facing the fair crowd. (For those who specially go for the photography)
Company: Friends who love to experience rural culture and architecture of India
Minimum day/time to visit: 1 full day
Locality: Village
Expenses: Max 400 per head (Share basis if you are going by car), 800 to 1000 max if you are going alone availing local transport, 200 rs if you are going with a small group availing local transport
More Information:

History - Before 15th century there was a kingdom of Baj Basanta Roy in the area presently known as Shikaripara in Dumka District of Jharkhand, India. Basanta Roy, son of a poor Brahmin of that village, once managed to catch a pet hawk (escaped) of the ruler Ala-ud-din Husain Shah of Gauda(গৌড়), West Bengal and gave back it to him. Being happy, Sultan awarded a title to Basanta Roy i.e. Baj. Also gave him the permission to rule Basanta Dynasty. The family of Baj Basanta was very religious. Instead of constructing palaces they started building temples even when the dynasty has been divided in parts. In this way it turns out as a village of temples. Another source says the name Maluti is said to be derived from Mallahati, the Malla Kings of Bankura. The temples has been publicized later by A.K.Sinha, Director of Archaeology, Government of Bihar.

Temples

It has been said there were total 108 temples have been constructed in this area. But at present the number has been decreased and turns around 72. Many of those has been ruined and others has been renovated and the working is going continuously. Most of the temples used to deified with different denominations of gods and goddesses like Shiva, Kali, Durga, Vishnu. Now a days few families around the temples worship their nearest temple as their own, and others remain closed. The temples have been decorated with sculptures of Mahabharata and Ramayana, and the fight between Durga and Mahishasura. But the temple of Sri Sri Mauliksha is structured differently and everyday it has been worshiped. There is another temple inside the village where the saint known as Bamakhyapa deified his trident.

Why to go?

People who love day tour near by, they can try this place. Specially for those who live in south Bengal or Jharkhand district. Also people who have interest in Archiological site they also can visit Malooti.

Near by attraction

Food

Well there are not much option for food stall nearby, you may visit Tarapith side for that. Or if you ignore that side then you have to find any road side dhaba. I would suggest carry food and water with you. Inside Malooti village you can not find a single food shop, please remember.
